Water Damage: A Tricky Troublemaker

Water damage is indeed the trickiest of troublemakers. For one thing, water runs until it is stopped making it difficult to diagnose its origins. The first sign of water damage often appears small and inconsequential, leading us not to spend too much time worrying about it. This is where the problem grows exponentially. When you see that first sign of water damage, think "tip of the iceberg." Most of the problem lies just below the surface.

How do you spot water damage? Sometimes the damage will reveal itself with a simple spot or stain. It may look wet, brown, or the color of mildew. Other signs could be peeling or cracking paint, warped sheet rock or even wavy flooring. The damage may reveal itself to your nose and not your eyes. A damp or musty smell may permeate your space. The sound of water dripping can also raise the alarms. I recently read an article in the Detroit Free Press about a family in Michigan that received a $19,000.00 water bill due to an undetected water leak.

All water damage must be remediated to prevent further damage and compromised safety. Hire a professional to locate the leaks and increase the safety of your home.
